Our Editors Pick the 5 Best Drugstore Skin Care Products

When it comes to skin care, UK pharmacies and pharmacies are very underrated.

While most Instagram feeds are filled with pricey serums, sprays, and moisturizers, it's often the drugstore products that have legions of loyal fans, including dermatologists and trusted skin experts.

From trendy cleansers to targeted treatments, pharmacies shelves across the UK are currently filled with all kinds of hidden gems, but how do you know which products to stock up on?

Below, seven R29 editors reveal the standout drugstore products that are revolutionizing your skin, and explain why you should try them.
Jacqueline Kilikita, beauty editor. "This clever blend of gel serums quickly soothes tight, dehydrated skin.

It contains two powerful ingredients: hyaluronic acid (which helps skin retain moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines) and glycerin (which attracts, soothes and hydrates). Both leave my skin looking plump, bouncy, and most importantly, radiant.

In the morning, I apply two pumps to a cleansed face, followed by SPF 50, and I'm ready for the day. .You can also use it as part of your nightly skincare routine (before applying moisturizer) for deeply hydrated, radiant skin in the morning."

Sadhbh O'Sullivan, health and lifestyle writer. "My skin has been on a long journey after I suddenly developed cystic acne in my early twenties (eventually blaming it on PCOS a few years later).

It took me several years to find the right Acids, retinols, even moisturizers, that's nothing compared to my mission to find a cleanser. I've been trying expensive or fancy-packaged products that have the best results for my oily, sore skin , but they were all too harsh, drying, or just rubbed the oil off my face.

It wasn't until I searched the r/Skincare Addiction subreddit again that I discovered CeraVe. I tried the Hydrating Cleanser first and loved it , but I decided on a foaming cleanser. After nearly 18 months of consistent use, I'm all in.

It's non-irritating, effective, leaves my skin soft and clean, and (at least until it went viral on TikTok) I can find it pretty much anywhere. I understand why it's such a hit, but I'm done with it, so...relax, guys!" Alicia Ransom, Editorial Assistant

"I was prescribed this moisturizer to treat my eye eczema when I was about 14 years old and I haven't used any other eye products since.

Unlike other dermatology creams, this This formula actually penetrates deep into the skin and is fragrance-free. My sensitive skin loves it. Even though my eczema isn't as bad as it was when I was younger, I still use it as a daily eye cream.

I'm pretty sure it also makes I'm free of eye bags. You can buy it in a large 500ml jar or a small 50ml travel size tube, which is even more reason to love it. I think I'd still spend the 90 bucks on this thing."

Jess Commons, Lifestyle Director. "I used it as a teenager but stopped using it in my 20s when I started trying all kinds of expensive lotions and potions. I bought it again while on holiday a few years ago, Can't believe I stopped.

For oily or combination skin, it's simply the best. No greasiness after use, no blemishes, skin feels completely hydrated and no makeup comes off immediately. I use Bioré Watery Essence SPF 50+++ (a great SPF for oily skin) Apply it, if so the skin will look a little dull.

I added Ordinary Vitamin C Silicone Suspension 30% to the mix. Gillian Orr, Content Director. "A few years ago, I went through a period of so much stress that I broke out in acne for the first time in my adult life.

My previously clear (albeit somewhat greasy) skin became covered in painful red bumps around my cheeks and chin.

I reached out to my skincare guardian angel, Refinery29 beauty editor Jacqueline Kilikita, and she took me to an amazing dermatologist who gave me a long list of products to use, including La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Cleansing Cream.

I don’t know if it was that or the fact that the stress in my life eventually subsided, but my skin quickly returned to its best condition. Even though the bottle says it’s for “oily, acne-prone skin” , but I still swear it’s the best cleanser I’ve ever used.

It’s fragrance-free, effectively lifts makeup and never dries out. It’s a must-do every morning (no one really does evening cleansing during lockdown Work, isn’t it?).
