TikTok Obsessed with the $15 Urban Skin Rx Cleansing Bar — Here’s My Honest Review

Nearly everyone with abundant melanin knows the (sometimes brutal) reality of a genetic predisposition to hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.

To be clear: The texture and pigmentation of acne scars are completely normal and natural—but that doesn't make them any less interesting.

Although my fear of being seen without makeup has disappeared, the acne scars I have had for thirteen years have not.

After struggling with cystic, acne-prone skin and the scarring that came with it for about a decade, I spent several years helping with chemical peels, retinol serums, and vitamin C-infused moisturizers.

The cleaning part of my routine has always been pretty simple. I was really just looking for something that could easily cleanse my dry, sensitive skin or remove makeup without irritating my skin.

I thought that's all a cleanser could do, until I tried the Urban Skin Rx Cleansing Bar ($15, Ulta) that's going viral on TikTok. If the TikTok beauty community is right, this cleansing bar should even out my skin tone and make my complexion brighter and more radiant.

I'm usually a little nervous about trying anything that's popular in the skincare world. As a South Asian woman, many mass market whitening products are not suitable for my skin type.

But when I saw that nearly every review on TikTok’s Viral Cleansing Bar was for beauty lovers from medium to dark skin tones, and Urban Skin Rx’s tagline is “clinical skincare for every skin tone,” I was tempted to give it a try Opportunity.

It didn't strip my dry skin of its natural oils. As someone with dry skin, I have a hard time finding cleansers that cleanse my skin without drying it out or stripping it of its natural oils.

Since this cleaner comes in a bar, there aren’t a lot of additives to make it flow. In fact, two of the bar's first three ingredients are nourishing coconut oil and hydrating safflower oil.

I usually have to overcompensate by applying a heavy moisturizer after cleansing. But after using this cleanser, I don’t feel dry at all. My skin feels very moisturized and soft after use.

My skin was glowing after the first use. I know I know. As you read this, you may be thinking that skin care products can’t really work after only one use. As someone who is skeptical about skin care products, I can't blame you. (But at only $15, you don’t lose much by trying it yourself).

Although I've been using this cleanser for a month and have seen increasingly impressive results in my skin texture and tone since then, I noticed a huge change in my skin after just one use The change.

The best part? The glow I saw on my skin one morning after the first use lasted (if I do say so myself) throughout the day.

Yes, the changes I saw were probably too subtle for others to notice, but I saw the new acne scars on my chin completely disappear and the stubborn pigmentation around my mouth immediately lightened.

I've been using the stick for a month now, and I've noticed that some of the extremely stubborn pigmentation (some scarring I had over the years!) has faded away.

The bar is fun and easy to use. If you've fallen down the TikTok rabbit hole from the countless video reviews this bar has received, you'll know that many of them are just people themselves frothing up a very satisfying froth at the bar.

Essentially, the cleaner comes in a jar filled with a jelly-like solid substance and has a round sponge on top. You simply hold the sponge under water and rub it into the solid product to create lather. This part of the process is so peaceful, I could almost say it's an ASMR-like experience.

Then rinse the sponge. You can even rinse solid cleaning pieces. (You’re welcome, germaphobes!). I use my cleanser twice a day - in the morning as a light cleanser and in the evening after removing my makeup. I use the Even Tone Cleansing Stick - it's gentle, effective and fun, perfect for all skin types.

If you have acne-prone skin, you should definitely try the Clear Skin Cleansing Bar, which is specially developed to treat acne.

If you don’t believe me, you should check out the thousands of light-skinned TikTok users who are obsessed with the brand.
